Eric Boeren 4tet

Eric Boeren - cornet
Michael Moore - alto sax / clarinet
Wilbert de Joode - double bass
Han Bennink - drums

Fifty-five year-old Dutch cornetist Eric Boeren brings much of the legacy of Ornette Coleman into the deployment of his “4tet”—featuring veteran improvisers Michael Moore on reeds, Wilbert de Joode on bass, and Han Bennink on drums. Like Coleman, Boeren’s roots are jazz and blues, with strong melodies mixed with unexpected keys designed to challenge improvisers to be on top of their game. Boerens grew up in the south of the Netherlands, where locals speak their own dialect. This linguistic difference inspired in him a sense of tonal difference in music, which he has applied both in his Dutch-jazz adaptations of original Coleman compositions (and compositions by Coleman collaborators like Don Cherry), and then to pieces that he has written himself.
