No one who saw the Academy Award-winning film 20 Feet From Stardom can forget Lisa Fischer’s indelible performances and ebullient personality. Best known for her long-standing membership in the Rolling Stones’s touring band, the 56-year-old New York City native has also been featured onstage with Sting, Tina Turner, and Nine Inch Nails. Fischer began her solo career under the stage name Xēna in 1983, and won a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1992. Despite scoring several Top 20 hits, her solo career failed to catch fire, and she found herself in demand as a backup singer, going on the road with the Rolling Stones in 1989 and joining them on every subsequent tour. She was also a mainstay onstage with soul singer Luther Vandross until his death in 2005. Now, with the success of 20 Feet From Stardom, Fischer is stepping out on her own again, showcasing her spectacular voice and infectious enthusiasm for performing a broad range of music.
