He’s a joker, he’s a smoker… but he’s also an influential blues-rock guitarist whose sound helped shape San Francisco’s Summer Of Love. Along with Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana and Jorma Kaukonen, Miller’s guitar formed the soundtrack of the late 1960s. Albums like Sailor (with the anthem “Gangster Of Love”) and Brave New World (which contained “Space Cowboy”) established Miller’s songwriting credentials, but it was 1973’s The Joker and the followups, Fly Like An Eagle and Book Of Dreams that broke him through to a massive international audience. In the wake of such enormous success, Miller has followed his own path, on his own terms – frequently stepping away from the music business to pursue other interests. Now, at 71, the Wisconsin native is back on the road and maintaining a Bob Dylanesque touring schedule, performing 60 shows in 2014, and with other non-stop year underway.
